| The Newberry Medal
The Newberry Medal is named for John Newberry, an 18th century British bookseller. Every year the Association for Library Service to Children gives the award to an author for a distinguished contribution to American literature to children.

The Coretta Scott King Award, presented annually by the Coretta Scott King Task Force of the American Library, recognizes authors and illustrators whose books promote an understanding and appreciation of the "American Dream."
The Award commemorates honors Coretta Scott King, widow of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., for her courage and determination in continuing the work for peace and world brotherhood while honoring the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
